Guidance for Moving Azure Resources without breaking NMM functionality

It would be encouraging to see some guidance for the proper way to move Azure Resources (specifically resources that are somehow linked to NMM one way or another) around without breaking Nerdio Manager. If resources are moved around, we have seen a few cases where this can break accounts and the functionality of the Nerdio Manager application. Such as moving the Nerdio manager account key vault for example.

Examples:
Moving resources between different resource groups.
Moving resources between regions.
Moving resources between subscriptions.

Agree, would be very helpful with this type of guidance.

I recently added a post Move AVD to a new Azure Region (v2) – Nerdio Help Center that covers how to move a customer's AVD environment to another Region/Resource Group/Subscription.
However, there are some limitations on what items that Azure allows to be moved. (See Move operation support by resource type - Azure Resource Manager | Microsoft Learn.) In general, moving Servers is easy with Azure Resource Mover, but depending on the move you're needing to do, it can prove difficult.

If you are wanting to move your Nerdio Manager install (see Move the Nerdio Manager Application to a Different Subscription – Nerdio Help Center), it's less easy because you'll need to reinstall NMM and re-add all of your account, clone the settings, disable the automations (on the old install), enable the automations (on the new install), remove the account(s) from the old install, and then remove the old NMM install. The process is similar to the Transition a Customer's AVD Environment from One Partner to Another – Nerdio Help Center instructions, but a bit simpler because you don't need to coordinate with another company.

Does that help you with your migration questions? Daniel Lundqvist Peter Gibbons

What happens if you have 100 customers on your NMM instance, but your MSP gets acquired by a competitor, so you want to move the tenant to a different subscription? What if you started NMM out on a sponsorship subscription, and want to move to PAYG, or vice versa? Not being able to move resources in Azure is a major limitation that needs to be resolved.

Very good points, Kevin Gilbert.

We don't have a great way to make this "painless" for those situations you mentioned.
There are those articles that I linked previously that make it a bit simpler, but it's still a great deal of manual effort.
If you're on the acquiring side (vs acquired), you could invest the time into automating that kind of migration with our API.

There's another feature request (Make Moving Nerdio Manager to a New Subscription less painful? – Nerdio Help Center) that is similar but hasn't gotten too much traction. 😢

That being said, we are getting closer to this functionality where we recently added a method to bulk-enroll accounts into Nerdio Manager (see NMM-PS/Bulk Enroll PartnerCenter.md at main · Get-Nerdio/NMM-PS).
