Server management times

It would be helpful if the start and stop process were able to handle two additional situations for servers:

  1. Starting a server without stopping it. In some cases, the server is best stopped by the team using it, and they may have circumstances where they don't need it stopped, but they always want it started if it was stopped
  2. Being able to have the stop time occur after midnight. Currently, no matter when you start a server it must stop at 11pm at the latest. A workaround is to fiddle with the timezone, but that's fairly confusing for other team coming along and very likely to result in human error. We have customers who support teams across multiple timezones, and servers often start at 9 or 10 in the morning, and turn off at 2 or 3 am, the next day. Because we must have a stop timer, and that must be before midnight, we cannot use the scale feature to adjust sizing and disk.

Good Morning Liam!  Regarding your request #1.  Do these users have access to the Azure portal?  I ask as a shutdown at the OS level (if this is the case) would not deallocate the VM within Azure (stops the Azure spend).   The stop via Nerdio's auto-scale would deallocate the VM within Azure.   Regarding #2, I'll be bringing this to our team for a review to potentially support an "overnight" schedule with Server auto-scale.   Thank you!

Welcome to the community, Liam Furlong 🙂!

There is another feature request (More schedule options for server auto-scaling – Nerdio Help Center) that looks like it would be a good candidate to combine with these ideas.

From what I'm seeing in your request (please correct me in I'm misunderstanding), it sounds like your #2 request could be fixed if we allowed a specific shutdown time (currently require a start/stop time in Server AutoScale).

Another option would be to utilize a scheduled Stop task.
With that scheduled task, it will shutdown the VM if it is running and skip the task if it's not.

Yes, I am happy to combine my request with that one, I have upvoted it.

In scenario #1, the users would not have access to Azure Portal, I take your point about deallocation, and it is a fair one.
