More schedule options for server auto-scaling

Currently the schedules available for server (not AVD session host) auto-scaling are:

  • Monday-Sunday
  • Monday-Saturday
  • Monday-Friday
  • Friday-Sunday
  • Saturday-Sunday

This feels like a bit of an arbitrary selection and I'm not sure why it can't be a start day and end day picker, or failing that can we have a schedule editor where schedules can be built per-tenant and used throughout the service?

My use case is providing a server to a contractor who works one day a week, I would like to schedule the server to only be powered on during the time they are in.

Welcome to the community, Jonny Marlborough 🙂!

Yes, our autoscale schedules are a bit limited right now.
We have a similar request (Date of the month schedule – Nerdio Help Center) that could fit in well with this.

Until we're able to add that feature, we do have the Scale in delay section of the Pre-Stage Hosts part of the Auto-Scale settings that says how long the host stays on after it's scaled-out.
Basically, the host will turn on at a specific time and if no one logs in after the Scale in delay window, the hosts will scale-in and shutdown.
As an example, if an E4as_v5 host runs for an hour, it'll cost you less than $0.50 (closer to $0.26 - $0.30/hr) to run it for that hour.
Multiplying that out for a whole week, it would be ~$2.50. Just some food for thought. 🤓

I have used that successfully for AVD pool scaling, but this relates to the server option which doesn't have the same sort of settings.

Ah. Sorry about that. You clearly said that in your original request and I completely missed it. 😔

You're completely right.
The Server Auto-Scale settings could do with some overhaul.
Would adding the functionality of the Pre-Stage Hosts to the server auto-scale do what you're wanting with being able to set specific days of the week?
Or are there additional features you could benefit from?

It would probably do the job but it might be making things more complicated than they need to be. It looks like you already have the backend in place to power the server on Monday - Friday and define work hours, I'd just like the day drop-down to be a list of days with checkboxes next to them rather than the currently defined options.

I appreciate you clarifying.
I agree. Simple is best. Being able to specify the specific days of the week should appeal to most partners.
