AVD and the OneDrive client - Processing FOREVER

Hey team, any help appreciated here.

Client environment is W10 Enterprise Multisession (22h2 19045.5011) with FSLogix user profiles on a premium share using the OneDrive client (24.244.1204.0003)

Client is moving 2.5TB of data to Sharepoint which should be fine but their file count is MASSIVE.

Their first site is 1.1 million files and its crippling the OneDrive client on AVD. Processing forever, impacting about half the users (no common denominator). I know of the 300k sync limitation and we are working on splitting the site up so users don't need to process all million files. Despite this, I feel that the client COULD BE performing better. Laptops can eventually get the files in sync with minimal issues.

Session hosts are reimaged every night (nonpersistent). I have tried doubling the SKU of the host, and also halving the number of max sessions per host. Storage sense dehydrates files to prevent profile bloat. Still, these issues persist.

Is there a better way to install OneDrive on the hosts? Or possibly some registry setting or condition I am not considering?

I would suggest trying "Add shortcut to OneDrive" vs. "Sync" option. Microsoft states the soft limit on file counts applied to both, but in reality, we have found OneDrive shortcut performance to be improved vs sync. Aside from that you are running up against the soft limits that Microsoft states. There are third party clients, such as Cloud Drive Mapper, that can be used as an alternative, but of course cost $. Would Azure files be a potential option if the data is only accessed from within the AVD sessions?

We've worked with quite a few partners who have had similar issues with OneDrive and many of them came to the same conclusion (OneDrive shortcut, 3rd party tool, or another file solution (i.e. Azure Files or traditional file server).

ZeeDrive and Cloud Drive Mapper are some 3rd party solutions that do cost money but come with free trials.
