Set alternative (Holiday, etc.) scaling schedules at the global level to apply to all or groups of clients.
Global Alternate Scaling Schedules
Welcome to the community, Charlie Bowen 🙂!
We've had a few requests for holiday/alternate schedules over the years and I'm curious about your use-case(s).
I know we have alternate schedules at the hostpool level, but nothing higher than that (i.e. Account, Global, etc.).
Are you thinking of having it work like the Global RDP Settings/Global FSLogix Settings or more like a scripted action that is assigned to certain accounts?
It came up in the Cincinnati training session today. We're still too new a partner to have an existing use case. However, if we were fortunate enough to grow in our Nerdio base, I could see setting alternate scaling schedules for any of the major holidays across all clients being tedious. Similarly, I could see the same for our educational clients with spring, fall and summer breaks. We've only had one client deployment so far; however, they have 4 different pool types already. I'm just imagining what those individual schedules scale out to. I'd have to defer to more established partners to know if it truly is an issue worth addressing. I think either of the options you list is what I had in mind at the Global level. It probably isn't any simpler, but at the client level I was just envisioning a check box in the alternative schedule options for "Apply to other host pools", then being able to select any or all of the other pools in the customer.Â
Very cool!
I can't tell you how many ideas I've gotten after attending one of the Nerdio Training Camps or NerdioCon.
Thanks for elaborating on your use case.
From what you're describing, I'm guessing that something like this will work, but I'd be interested to hear other partner's use-cases too.
I'm thinking there could be an option under the Auto-Scale properties where someone could choose the Global Holiday Schedule (from MSP Settings).
If you select a Global Holiday Schedule, the manual schedule would be greyed-out and vice-versa.
You would still need to set that per Host Pool, but I think that would capture the majority of the use case you're describing with school breaks, Banker Holidays, Major US Holidays, etc.Â
Do you think something like that will work for your customers?
Yes, I believe that would work, save time and be much more consistent. Thank you for considering it even if it doesn't get enough attention to make it into a release.
