Add New Server - open to select the VNet and Subnet

When following the Microsoft CAF its BP to place workloads into different Azure Landing Zones, which are normally outside of the AVD Landing Zone. It would be great to be able to create the Azure VMs within the Nerdio interface and be able to select the Vnet and subnet. The default linked network in the Azure> linked network is the AVD Landing Zone vnet.

Business case would be 100 plus accounts. As a workaround, when creating new VMs this would need to be done in the Azure portal, to place the VM in a network other than the Nerdio default linked network.

Welcome to the community, Andrew McSparron 🙂!

It's great that your company is trying to utilize the Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework.
I want to say that Nerdio is working to implement more of it into their product, but I could be remembering wrong...

Regardless of whether Nerdio is working towards it or not (I'm pretty sure they are😉), your idea has a lot of merit outside of the CAF. As long as the network exists in Nerdio, we should have the option to select the VNet/SNet when creating a Server.

Hi Andrew,

I know Microsoft BP are always a good starting point. But sometimes it comes to reality and customer needs where its not even possible to implement all MS BP....

But in your case, maybe I misunderstood. But you can just link multiple subscriptions from different landing zones and connect these networks to Nerdio. Then you can create VMs (workloads) in different networks.

Good Morning,

To confirm, is the goal to be able to add a server and select a different vNET (region is determined by vNET region) when adding a server in Nerdio?  If so, this is currently possible and you'll see those options in my screenshot below.   One requirement though for this is that the vNETs are linked within Nerdio under Settings>Azure.   Here's a screenshot from my demo environment with several vNETs linked, allowing selection of the vNET:

That's excellent, Chuck Mikuzis!
I don't know if I just missed that because I only had one vNET/sNET in my environment or if it's a new feature.
Either way, it's great!

I'm wondering if the Nerdio team could add the ability to link an existing and/or create a new network to that Network drop-down? Or, even easier, add a prompt saying "If the network you're wanting isn't listed, you need to link it in Nerdio. Click HERE for instructions on how to link an existing Azure Network." 🙂
