Cost estimator: ethernet requirements customer location

the cost estimator knows how many users are going to use AVD.

it would be nice that is also calculates the needed bandwith/latency based on the AVD bandwith requirements.
(optional, but to select between screen resolutions so it can be made more precise, or just use 1080P as default.)

This is a great idea, but I wonder how useful it will be.

Are you thinking of just a recommendation for Bandwidth based on the user-to-host ratio?
i.e.
Based on the number of office worker users, we recommend each user have at least a 10mb internet connection with <50ms latency.
Because you are using 3D Graphic host pools, we recommend each user have at least a 100mb internet connection with <5ms latency.

The Bandwidth/Latency has a lot of variance (see example below).
Even on a daily basis, users using cable internet can see variance in their latency/experience. 😟

Example:
A salesperson travels 2 weeks (in total for the month) and works from a laptop.
When in the office, they use 3 1080p monitors, and when they're at home, they're working off 2 4K monitors.

I'm not bashing on your suggestion, I'm just trying to work it out in my mind. 🙂

How I see it is as followed, you can select between the light, medium, heavy and power users.

Based on these guide lines from microsoft, you could say, well you have 10 employee's that are working from the customer HQ, all of those users are medium users, so the expected bandwith could be 30Mbps at minimum.

If the Cost Estimator gives us this information, we as an MSP can recommend a better ISP or network connection for the customer.
Or if they don't want to upgrade/invest in a better network connection then we have already warned the customer about the issue.

This would make it for sales colleagues easier to make an AVD calculation, and/or recommend a better network connection.

Interesting idea.

I wonder if we'd be able to provide more real-world estimates by having the customer run the Azure Virtual Desktop experience estimator on a few computers/environments to get an estimate based on the time of day and average network/internet traffic.

Maybe combine the two together?
Have the Cost Estimator provide theoretical bandwidth recommendations and validate the recommendations with the Experience Estimator?

Well the AVD Experience, only does the RTT based on your location, but that is only an estimate, most of the time the RTT of an AVD session (here in the netherlands at least) is lower then what the AVD estimator shows.

It's also recommended to run it while being on the customers network. So if there making a caluclation in our HQ then it wouldn't be usefull at all.
