This article guides you through restoring the source of an imported global Intune policy. When the source policy of an imported policy has been deleted in the source tenant, Nerdio Manager marks the policy with a source not found indicator. Restoring the source publishes the policy to a tenant that you choose and links it as the source again, so that you can keep managing the policy centrally. For background on importing and assigning policies, see Intune policy: MSP level general management.
The tasks in this procedure are performed at the MSP level.
-
The policy was imported at the MSP level, and its source policy no longer exists. The policy shows the source not found indicator.
-
The action is not offered for Hosted Connection Filter policies, or for policies whose source is intact.
The following Nerdio Manager roles allow you to carry out the tasks in this procedure:
-
MSP Admins can restore the source of an imported policy.
-
If the policy uses variables, make sure that you know the values to use for the tenant that you restore to. See MSP-level variables.
To restore the source of an imported policy:
-
In Nerdio Manager, at the MSP level, expand Policies, and select the policy type that contains the policy.
-
Locate the policy that shows the source not found indicator, and from its action menu select Restore source.
-
In the Restore source for '[policy name]' dialog, the line Original policy's source tenant shows the tenant that the policy came from.
-
In Source Tenant, select the tenant to restore the policy to. Tenants that cannot be used are unavailable, and the reason is shown. The original tenant is selected for you when it is available.
-
For a Conditional Access policy, in Conditional Access policy state, select the state to use while the policy is restored. The state is report-only by default. It is used only during the restore, and the stored policy content in Nerdio Manager is not changed. If you select Enabled, a warning reminds you that enabled policies can affect user sign-ins immediately after the restore.
-
If the policy uses variables, the Variables list shows each variable with its name and value, and the variable type. You can override the values for this publication:
-
Overwrite value: Enter a replacement value, and then select Save value, or select Cancel.
-
Clear override: Remove an override that you entered.
-
Load secure value (the eye icon): Show the value of a secure variable.
If Nerdio Manager cannot find a variable, the dialog says Variable not found. You need to overwrite a value.
-
-
Save the dialog. The save button is unavailable until you have selected a tenant and no variable is missing a value.
Result: the policy is published to the selected tenant and linked to it as its source.
Note
The source not found indicator can remain if the format of the published policy is older than the current format in Microsoft Intune.
