Azure Files Premium v2 Support
Nerdio Manager for MSP supports provisioning Azure Files shares using the Premium v2 tier, which allows capacity, IOPS, and throughput to be configured independently of one another. This decoupled model gives MSPs precise control over file share performance without being forced to over-provision capacity simply to meet IOPS or throughput requirements — reducing cost while maintaining performance targets for FSLogix profile and Office Container workloads.
The tasks in this procedure are performed at the customer level.
Prerequisites
Azure requirements
- An Azure subscription with access to Storage Accounts in a region that supports Azure Files Premium v2.
- Sufficient Azure quota for Premium file shares in the target region.
Role-based access control (RBAC) and permissions
At the customer level:
- Accounts with an Azure subscription linked and configured in Nerdio Manager.
Nerdio Manager roles
The following Nerdio Manager roles allow you to configure Azure Files shares:
- MSP Admins can create and configure Azure Files shares, including Premium v2 tier shares.
Provision an Azure Files Premium v2 share
- In Nerdio Manager for MSP, navigate to the target customer account.
- Go to Azure Files (under the Storage or FSLogix section, depending on your configuration).
- Click Add Azure Files Share or select an existing share to edit.
- In the Tier dropdown, select Premium v2.
- Configure the following performance parameters independently:
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| Capacity (GiB) | The provisioned storage size of the share. Set this based on actual data storage requirements, independent of performance needs. |
| IOPS | The provisioned input/output operations per second. Set based on the expected concurrent user load and FSLogix profile activity. |
| Throughput (MiB/s) | The provisioned data transfer rate. Set based on peak read/write throughput requirements for the environment. |
- Complete any remaining share configuration (name, storage account, network settings) and click Save.
Note: Azure Files Premium v2 uses a provisioned performance billing model. You are billed for the IOPS and throughput you provision, regardless of actual usage. Size these values carefully to balance performance and cost.
