How Can I Extend an On-Premises Domain Controller to Azure?

Complete the following steps to extend your on-premises domain controller to Azure.

Note: The steps below are provided as a service and are not directly supported by Nerdio in delivery. Work with your distributor, CSP, or Microsoft directly, if further support is needed.

To extend an on-premises domain controller to Azure:

  1. Create a resource group. For details, see Create resource groups.

  2. Create a VNet. For details, see Create a virtual network and bastion host.

  3. Create a site-to-site VPN. For details, see Create a VPN gateway.

  4. Change the DNS server on the VNet to an on-premises DNS server. For details, see View virtual networks and settings.

  5. Create a domain controller VM in Azure. (B2ms). For details, see Quickstart: Create a Windows virtual machine in the Azure portal.

  6. Set the domain controller's IP to static. For details, see Create a virtual machine with a static private IP address using the Azure portal.

  7. Install AD DS role on the VM.

  8. Add a new DC VM to the VNet DNS server list. For details, see How to push Custom Azure DNS settings to Azure server.
