AI-Powered Personally Identifiable Information Detector

AI-Powered Personally Identifiable Information Detector

The AI-Powered personally identifiable information (PII) Detector enhances security and compliance by utilizing Azure's PII Detection cognitive skill. This feature automatically scans and identifies PII within Nerdio Manager's logs, ensuring data privacy and regulatory compliance.

Enable Azure AI

Azure AI services require each tenant to accept the Azure Responsible AI Notice. For more information on responsible use of AI with Azure AI Services, see this Microsoft article. See Azure Responsible AI Notice for information about how to accept the Responsible AI Notice.

To enable Azure AI:

  1. At the Account level, navigate to SettingsIntegrations.

  2. Locate the Azure AI tile.

  3. Next to Azure AI Vision, select Disabled.

  4. Enter the following information:

    • Use Azure AI Vision: Toggle this option On.

    • Azure AI Vision Cognitive Service: From the drop-down list, select an existing Azure AI Vision Cognitive Service or create a new one.

  5. Once you have entered all the desired information, select OK.

  6. Next to Azure AI Language - PII Detector, select Disabled.

  7. Enter the following information:

    • Use Azure AI Language - PII Detector: Toggle this option On.

    • Azure AI Language Cognitive Service: From the drop-down list, select an existing Azure AI Language Cognitive Service or create a new one.

    • Search Mode: Select Nerdio Defaults or All.

      Notes:

      • Nerdio Defaults only searches tasks that Nerdio Manager has identified as likely holding PII and excludes system tasks that typically do not hold PII. This option reduces the number of tasks sent to the Azure AI Language service.

      • All searches all tasks for PII. This option increases the number of tasks sent to Azure AI Language Service.

    • Notify: Type the email addresses, separated by commas, that receive the notifications.

  8. Once you have entered all the desired information, select OK.

  9. Next to Description generation, select Disabled.

  10. Enter the following information:

    • Use Description generation: Toggle this option On.

    • Description Generation Cognitive Service: From the drop-down list, select an existing Description Generation Cognitive Service or create a new one.

  11. Once you have entered all the desired information, select OK.

PII Email Alerts

Nerdio Manager alerts you via email when there is a potential issue with PII appearing in the logs.

  • The emails are sent to the addresses configured in the Azure AI Language - PII Detector, as shown above.

  • The logs are examined, and the alert emails are generated if necessary, once an hour from 12:00 AM - 5:00 AM, in the time zone Nerdio Manager is installed in.
