Errors when cloning Desktop Image

When trying to clone Desktop Images in NMM, it will often fail.
Generally, it is after 20 minutes, on this step:
Wait for Sysprep to complete (temp VM should automatically shut down)

Error: Wait for temp VM to stop timed out

Sometimes, we can click resume and it will finish.
Other times, we clean it up and start the clone again a few times before it finally succeeds.

Has anyone else experienced the same thing or is it something exclusive to our NMM instance?

Hi Dave,

I had this same issue recently, for me it was because I had removed the default US (English, simplified) language and installed English (Australian/British convict) and made that the default for all uses by copying to system and new accounts etc, like we normally would.

This method doesn't work well with sysprep, so I had to jump through a bunch of hoops, there's a help article about it already in Nerdio help, see here:  Add Language Packs to Image VMs – Nerdio Help Center

This is the article that helped me find that it was language packs causing the problem:

Troubleshooting Desktop Image Sysprep Errors – Nerdio Help Center

Hope that helps,

A

Hmm. Something to keep in mind for sure, but unfortunately doesn't apply in our case since none of our clients require additional language packs, yet. 🙂
In doing more testing, it appears to be something else with our images that is causing the error.  We're going "back to the drawing board" and trying to script the install of any applications or configurations we need so we can utilize the native Azure images instead of maintaining our own.

Thanks!

I'm experiencing this issue also in while prepping a new image.  If i remember from a long time ago, it can have something to do with a windows store software package being installed.  That was when Win 10 was new though, and I'm trying with the Win 11 multisession with M365 Apps for Biz image.. installed Accounting CS from Thompson Reuters, Adobe Reader (via NMM script) - gonna have to work with support i think!

This is a fairly old thread….but I'm getting this exact error on Server 2022 and not sure how to proceed. Previously no issues…last week installed some engineering apps (including Adobe Acrobat cloud - since you mentioned an issue with Adobe Reader), and now have issues that the tmp VM won't shut down with the result it never creates the image. Any update on this perhaps before I reach out to support?

Welcome to the community, Werner Van Zyl 🙂!

We have a KB (Troubleshoot desktop image Sysprep errors – Nerdio Help Center) that talks about common errors and how to resolve them, but if you're getting a specific error in your Sysprep logs, let us know and we can help you out here.

Most times, it's an error, but sometimes, it just times out and if you resume the task, it will complete the second time around.
If you toggle-on the Error Handling in the Set as Image task, it can help with those transient errors.
