Where did B v1 series SKU's go ?

Sharing here to spread the love.    While our organization has moved on from scoping v1 B series VM's for low demand workloads, we have plenty of customers who were previously deployed, and we leverage our Nerdio Estimates historically to generate a new cost/price.   Last week we observed that we couldn't get a price for B series like the venerable B2MS and B4MS SKU's.   They were greyed out, indicating the Microsoft API is not providing a price, therefore, Nerdio can't surface the price.

Turns out - and I had not noticed elsewhere, that Microsoft is not ‘retiring’ the SKU's yet, but they are not adding more capacity and label them as ‘Capacity Restricted’.   This is an additional flag the blocks a price coming out of the API.   The one I am more accustomed to, is the SKU being still in preview mode.

It is worth noting, I can still deploy the SKU, and I still get a price in the Azure portal.   It isn't listed under ‘previous generation’ or some of the other dropdown options when selecting in the portal - so outside of this issue, it isn't obvious that they have started down a path of being sunset.   I suspect that will happen in the portal soon though.

So - in case you stumble across this, and/or are otherwise confused by the behavior - there you have it.   Additionally, for those who want to see the fine print, here is the Microsoft article - Previous generation Azure VM size series - Azure Virtual Machines | Microsoft Learn
