Console Connect - CMD & Powershell - Please allow many more characters for copy-paste and paste-as-keystrokes

Raising this after Nerdio support asked me to…

Console Connect - CMD & Powershell - Please allow many more characters for copy-paste and paste-as-keystrokes
e.g. Pasting a paragraph or two of code into Console Connect's remote Powershell, but there is a paste limit (200 chars, I think).

I'm coming from Ninja RMM, which also has CMD and Powershell, as logged in user and as system, and there is no issue pasting in code. Also it does copy-on-select, which is really handy. I use remote Powershell frequently.

I realise I could save as .ps1 and run it … but some hosts have Threatocker and it would have to go through an approval process to execute the .ps1. Pasting directly into Powershell to run something simple, is far easier… and what I am used to, for our clients' fleets.

Looks like Console Connect can be installed on server VMs via Nerdio. Nice. Would also be great if Console Connect could extend to managing client desktops & laptops, not just AVD hosts and server VMs. Currently we use Ninja RMM for user devices and server VMs, and it works really well … but is yet another product to maintain, document, train on….

Cheers
Dave

Thanks for this, Dave.
It's great to see partners starting to adopt Console Connect.

I tried testing this and didn't have the same problem, but could just be testing it wrong.
If you don't mind, can you provide a little more info about what you're doing?

This is what I did:
From the Console Connect Toolbox, I'm able to send multi-paragraph scripts (i.e. the “Install OneDrive Sync Per Machine” or “Install Microsoft Teams (New)" script from NMM) and execute them in the background.

With the Clipboard Sync feature enabled, I'm able to copy/paste in the console session by using ctrl-v

Again, I just may be doing something different though.

Clipboard sync is on for graphical remote sessions. In Toolbox mode, there is no left menu, where clipboard sync could be checked.

Toolbox mode – Try pasting more than 200 characters directly into the CC PS Window -- that's where I got a warning about a character limit. Today it lets me paste. Pity I didn't get a screenshot at the time. Who knows?

CC does have a few quirks, but mostly works well.

You know, I feel like guys here are trying to replace their RMM and reduce costs here with having console connect, I dont know if Nerdio wants to cover the licensing costs by allowing extending to endpoints, that is, without turning the costs over to us.

Hmmm, bit unfair. In my case I am not involved with the financials. I just saw a new tool offered, and tested it. I don't see us replacing our primary RMM tool, but do see a lot of crossover between products we use. Naturally any tech is going to compare the remote access tools they have used, with anything new. Console Connect is Zoho Assist underneath, and I wanted give it a test drive.

In my current scenario, I am working with a client where our RMM is not installed and won't be. I need Console Connect for the server VMs. Was just wondering why it was not shown for desktops (later I saw that it is… but in a different section (Nerdio is like that. Try giving a public IP to a VM from the servers page…)

Not sure it is a good idea to offer a new feature, but limit it, and then get testy when someone asks about it. That just means the licensing skus have not been properly organised. Don't blame the user. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sorry, must have come out wrong over the post. All that I meant was that It'd be unlikely that Nerdio would extend it to endpoints, because they pay someone else per agent, I'm sure. At least, not without having some sort of fee attached.

They have a FAQ on it, and one of the questions is “how do I download the agent to install” for which they reply that they cant allow it because of licensing.

Thanks, David and Travis.

Console Connect is a great, free for partners, tool that does improve the value of Nerdio Manager.
Obviously, we can continue to improve the functionality and documentation of the product.

We currently have the ability to install Console Connect on any Azure VM or Intune managed device. There have been some requests to install it on non-NMM managed devices, but as far as I know, it's still in the works. Stay tuned!

Hi Travis Lamming - allowing MSPs to support non-NMM managed devices with Console Connect is most certainly on our roadmap. Possibly even this year. How many such devices would you manage per customer account on an average?
