Automatic Patching Scripts for Windows Server 2022
Welcome to the community, Mathew Mccann š!
Having the ability to patch Server OS seems like a great idea.
Looking at the Update Windows 11 script, there's nothing explicit in there that would prevent you from using it on a Server OS because it's just using theĀ PSWindowsUpdate PowerShell module.
I know, historically, MSPs have been a bit more hesitant to patch servers in an automated format just because of the impact if a server isn't working.
But, as long as you've got good backups, it might be worth the risk.
Out of curiosity, how many servers are you looking to patch with a scripted action?
If we were to add a way to utilize/visualize Azure Hot Patch in NMM, would that be a better option?
I'm not saying we "can" and/or "will" add the feature, but more so trying to gauge interest if Server patching is a big pain point for partners.
Hi Dave!
I missed your comment earlier here, sorry about that.
That's great that the Windows 11 Script should work for Server OS, we will try that out in one of our non-prod host pools to test and let you know.
We currently have around 100 VMs in our largest production host pool, and about half a dozen smaller host pools, so about 150-200 VMs currently, with more always on the way as our company continues to grow.
We are very intrigued by the notion of Azure Hot Patch support in Nerdio, it sounds like a very useful supplementary patching option for Windows Server, and would be very beneficial to helping us maintain better security posture.

No worries, Matthew. We all get busy, but I'm glad you were able to reply back.
No pun intended, but Azure Hot Patch is really āhotā right now and having it could definitely help you with your 200+ VMs that you're managing.
Please let us know if the PowerShell updating method works as an intermediary step.
I'm guessing other partners could be interested in the same thing.
