New Outlook

Afternoon Nerdio Community,

I am running the Office Deployment Toolkit to deploy office apps + Visio and Project.  Then another install does the new teams with the outlook plugin for teams.  All seems fine but the New Outlook doesn't seem to work?

How has other people managed to get new outlook working?  Separate install?

Why MS cannot just package this up with the toolkit is beyond me.

Any advice would be great?

Thanks,

Vince

Welcome to the community, Vince Thompson 🙂!

Great question.

New Outlook still does not seem to be mainstream (I'm guessing because it's so polarizing for users (they either love it or hate it)🤷‍♂️) so there's no telling why Microsoft doesn't include it as an installation option with their deployment toolkit.

That being said, we do have a scripted action (from our NMM Sales Engineering GitHub Repo) NMM-SE/Scripted Actions/Install New Outlook.ps1 at 7965933b829d4ca9361e23e6a366eac215f8d8f7 · Get-Nerdio/NMM-SE that will install the latest version of New Outlook on your session host(s).
If you want to exclude "Classic Outlook" from being deployed, you would just exclude it from your config.xml file you create for the office deployment.

I know it's not ideal to have "another script" to install an application, but luckily it makes it a little less painful because it can be automated. 🙂

Great stuff Dave Stephenson Thanks for that.  Hope that one day MS include it in the toolkit, thanks for the script.  The office plug-in for Teams was painful also. :)

You're very welcome.

We're hoping they include it as an option as well (maybe even include options for VDI versions of the software (or installer flags) so we don't need separate installers/scripts for each software 🤯), but in the meantime, we at least have a way to work around it. 🙂
