Best Practices: Migrating MSP Infrastructure to Cloud

This is not related to Nerdio/AVDs, but I'm wondering if anyone has moved their internal MSP infrastructure to the Cloud and has any hindsight advice from that move.

We're looking to get out of our Colo and move our PSA and RMM into Azure (instead of replacing all of our existing server infrastructure. We looked into moving to CW hosting, but it's cost-prohibitive for us.

We have briefly looked at Azure Firewall, but that is also quite expensive as well.
Right now, we're using WatchGuard FWs, but the cloud version isn't as "robust" as the hardware appliances.

For those that moved, do you think we "need" to use Azure Firewall or will Azure Network Security Groups be sufficient to run ConnectWise Manage, ConnectWise Automate, and ConnectWise ScreenConnect in Azure?

Hi Dave,

We actually did this at my previous MSP and were very successful. We used Azure Migrate to lift and shift our DC, Manage, Automate, and Control servers into Azure. We ended up using a Meraki vMX in Azure just for uniformity across our platforms, but prior to that were very successful with using only an NSG on the vNET. If you don't have a need for layer 7 capabilities, an NSG will work well and save you cost. You could also look at the Azure Firewall Basic SKU for a lower cost Azure Firewall.

Thanks, Marcos Artiaga!

This is very helpful.
Out of curiosity, do you know approximately how many endpoints you were supporting at your previous MSP?
Right now, we have about 7,000 endpoints checking-in to our Automate/Control servers.

DStephenson, we had around 1300 endpoints in our environment.
