Temporary profile with FSLogix

I'm occasionally having this problem with a client.  We are using FSLogix with PreventLoginWithFailure and PreventLoginWithTempProfile enabled.  The only fix seems to be to reboot the session host, but trying to find a way to avoid that.

Found this article that mentions the exact issue and states it's a known issue with no workaround.  I do not agree with their assumption that it's due to storage permissions.  Looking for information if anyone has any.

Below is the only relevant data I can see for when this happened over the weekend

ID 1515

Windows has backed up this user profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backup profile the next time this user logs on.

ID 1511

Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.

The winlogon notification subscriber <frxsvc> was unavailable to handle a critical notification event.

That's a bummer.
It's always "fun" when Microsoft says it's a known issue and then says there's no workaround.

We haven't seen this consistently but did occasionally see that when we were testing Kerberos AAD Auth/Cloud Only Auth/CloudCache/BlobStorage.

We saw it most often when we were running older versions of FSLogix, when the storage account was in a different region, or the storage was on slow storage (i.e. Blob Storage).

It's quite likely a latency issue (the client connection is timing out before it can connect to the FSLogix profile), but that's just my gut reaction. 😁
Are you able to see any pattern with this? (i.e. Always Bob in Accounting, anyone from Ohio (connecting to a West US 2 AVD) runs into the problem when there are more than 10 users logged-in, etc)

I had another thought that it could be something with their profile is locked.

Could that be the case by chance?

No pattern that I can tell.  This is a simple client with 1 session host and about 15-20 users.  All resources are in East US and we are using Azure Files Premium for FSLogix.  I never have much time to work on it since when the client calls us, no one else can login until it's fixed.

We are running an older version of FSLogix and I think I'll upgrade that first.  We were purposely on an older version due to an issue we had where credentials weren't being saved.

I do see a registry key that can be set called CleanupInvalidSessions.  I wonder if that will help avoid any profile lock issues.

Thanks.

Hi Steve Hopler! Just curious, were you able to update fslogix and set that reg key? Did it resolve the issue for you? I don't think it's the case, but I've also seen lots of weird issues when the Azure File fills to capacity, so I would check that and also use auto-scaling for your Azure File shares if you're not already. Check out Auto-scale Settings for Azure Files – Nerdio Help Center for more info or let me know if you want to jump on a call to set it up!

I updated FSLogix to 2.9.8612.60056, and set that registry key and a few others as recommended by our CSP.  That was on 12/14 and the problem hasn't happened since, but it was usually a once a month issue for us.  I do have Azure Files auto-scaling enabled.

I don't have my notes from this right now, but when looking through other event logs at that time users could not login, there were profile and registry errors leading me to believe that this actually isn't a FSLogix issue.  I had another ticket open with Microsoft, but they weren't being helpful since I couldn't reproduce the issue on demand.
