FSLogix Profiles for Entra ID Joined Multi-user Host Pools with Azure Page Blobs
The Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) service recommends FSLogix profile containers as a user profile solution. FSLogix is designed to roam profiles in remote computing environments, such as AVD. It stores a complete user profile in a single container. At sign in, this container is dynamically attached to the computing environment using natively supported Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) and Hyper-V Virtual Hard disk (VHDX). The user profile is immediately available and appears in the system exactly like a native user profile.
FSLogix is generally used in conjunction with Azure Files to store the user profiles. However, Azure Files still requires Hybrid AD users. Instead, Nerdio Manager allows Entra ID Joined multi-user host pools to use Azure blob storage for FSLogix profiles.
Prerequisite: Azure Blob Storage Account
Please see Create Blob Storage for FSLogix Profiles for details about creating a blob storage account.
Step 1: Create an FSLogix Profile
You must enable Cloud Cache for an FSLogix Profile storage.
To enable Cloud Cache for an FSLogix Profile storage:
At the Account level, navigate to Settings > Integrations.
In the FSLogix Profiles storage tile, either edit an existing profile or add a new profile.
Enter the following information:
Use Cloud Cache: Select this option to enable Cloud Cache.
Use Azure Page Blobs: Select this option to use storage account blob containers to store users profiles.
FSLogix Profile path: From the drop-down list, select an Azure Storage account.
Note: You must create the Azure Storage account in the Azure portal. Be sure to create a Azure Page Blobs storage account.
Once you select OK, a new FSLogix profile is created that uses Azure page blobs to store user profiles. These containers are accessed using storage account access keys.
Step 2: Create a Host Pool with the FSLogix Profile
Nerdio Manager allows you to add Entra ID Joined host pools with FSLogix user profiles (where cloud cache and use Azure Page Blobs storage is enabled).
To create a host pool with the FSLogix Profile:
At the Account level, navigate to AVD > Host Pools.
Select Add host pool.
Enter the following information:
Desktop Experience: Select Multi user desktop (pooled).
Directory: From the drop-down list, select Entra ID.
FSLogix: From the drop-down list, select the FSLogix profile.
Note: Only profiles with Use Cloud Cache and Use Azure Page Blobs options selected are shown in the FSLogix drop-down list.
